Friday Afternoon - Snæfellsjökull National Park

We spent most of the afternoon in the rain and fog in Snæfellsjökull National Park.

Unfortunately,
Snæfellsjökull glacier which lies on top of a volcano near the center of the park was enshrouded in clouds and fog.   On Thursday we could see the glacier clearly from Glymur waterfall.

The glacier covers the summit crater to the depth of 200m (650 ft). Due to global warming the glacier has shrunken and it continues to shrink. Some researches predict that the glacier would vanish in less than 50 years.

While we spent most of the time driving, we did get out for a short hike in the lava fields.

There were several sheep pens that appeared to be in active use - no sheep but lots of poop around.

Art found a float among the black slippery rocks on the beach.  It will be interesting getting it home on the plane.

View of a ruin in the lava fields.

Rock formations on our way out of the park.

Waterfalls were everywhere.

Jagged crater among 10 or 12 others.  It looked like rocks the size of cars were tossed several hundred yards.
