F88 was closed from here where it started at route 1
Instead we spent time taking in the sights in the area in the Myvatn area.
Next we headed for Námafjall Hverir geothermal area, an otherworldly landscape of steaming, boiling mud pools that reeked of sulfur.
We started the day with an amazing breakfast spread, while er watched cows being milked at the Voguejos Cowshed Restaurant.
View from our breakfast table.
Breakfast buffet, plus there was fruit that did not make it into the picture.
Farm equipment on the way back to our room from breakfast. This thing fluffs the hay to dry it before they roll it and wrap it in plastic.
After breakfast we visited Jardboadsholar, near the Nature Baths we will soak in tonight. The area was alive with steam spewing up from the ground.
This steaming hole was full of sheep bones.
We attempted a steep climb to the top of Hverfjall, but a little over half way up, the trail turned at an extremely steep angle to join the easier trail up. Mary decided the trail was too treacherous for a old lady who left her hiking poles in the car. The trail was steep and ill defined and the loose soil ultimately did us in.
