Saturday Afternoon

We visited the Látrabjarg Bird Cliffs Saturday afternoon.  We apparently were there at the wrong time of day to see the puffins, but the scenery was spectacular.  We learned too late that it is better to go in the evening when they settle back into the cliffs after flying around all day.  Just before we left we did see numerous seals lying on rocks below.

View from the road to Látrabjarg.

There was a strong wind blowing the whole time we were there and we had to be careful not to be blown odd the edge ... to look over the side the technique was to crawl on the belly, peek over and then crawl back out of harms way.

Late in the afternoon we checked into the Breidavik Guesthouse.  We had thought it was a town when we made the reservation, but it turned out to be just the guesthouse and a small church.  We felt like a captive audience at the guesthouse ...  it is the now show in town ... only food and only place to sleep anywhere around.  The nearest actual town is an hours drive on very challenging, narrow roads that snake along the edge of a cliff.

The church seemed typical of churches we have seen in Iceland ... Small, single room, distinctive steeple.

We took a short walk on the beach by Breidavik Guesthouse before dinner.

9:15 PM and not even close to dusk.  It should be dark in a couple of hours.
