Wednesday -Traveling to Mývatn

On the road from Varmahlíð to Mývatn and Lake Mývatn

Mývatn is a wondrous place.  Lots of undrground activity causing steam vents, hot water flowing to the surface and ground that is hot to the touch.

A minor accident

While driving on the sandy access road to the Hverfjall crater, a very nice German couple driving toward us in a similar Isuzu to ours hit our mirror with their mirror.

They crossed the center point of the road to avoid an animal fense that was leaning into the road on their side.  I drove as far to the right as I could to avoid their car resulting in the passenger front tire being punctured by a rock at the edge of the road.  The fence was leaning far enough into the road that other cars could not get passed our car while I was changing the tire until the fence was moved to an upright position.

Changing the tire was fun, plus we had to buy a new tire - tires are not covered by the insurance.

We hiked across the lava field near our gust cottage at the end of the day.   We hope the rainbow is a sign of better luck ahead.
